New book from NSTA helps physics teachers improve student understanding through strategic changes in how they structure lessons

ARLINGTON, Virginia – (COMMERCIAL THREAD) – A new handy resource shows high school teachers how to design lessons for better results. Just released by NSTA press, Teaching Sequence Questions, Grades 9 to 12: Explore-Before-Explain in Physical Sciences shows simple ways to rearrange and combine activities. The changes lead to deeper learning for students and make it easier for teachers to use modern frameworks that emphasize three-dimensional learning.

Questions relating to the teaching sequence, grades 9 to 12 is based on a research-based approach called the 5E model (Engage, Explore, Explain, Elaborate and Evaluate). The author explains why the sequence is important and then offers a self-guided tour to become an explore teacher before explaining. The book includes planning models and model lessons. Teachers will learn to engage students in technical design problems, use algebraic and mathematical reasoning, read technical texts, develop their own research, and write argumentative essays.

Like its popular counterparts for grades 3-5 and 6-8, Questions relating to the teaching sequence, grades 9 to 12 is useful for a wide range of educators: new and experienced teachers, online teachers who need real life examples that are easy to discuss virtually, facilitators of professional development workshops and teacher-educators.
